I wonder about ospreys and their safety

I wonder why this osprey builds her nest so close to the road?

Every time I walk down the street, she chirps in panic, then flies off. Her big shadow scares me as it passes over me.

Also, why is the nest so open to the elements? Won't the babies get soaked if it rains (or snows -- I wonder if they fly south?)?

I wonder if they're solo birds? I never see more than one adult.

I wonder if she would fly off if I were on my bike (she doesn't fly off when cars drive by)?
